Weatherveins by Brittany Josie blurs the lines of poetry and turns the medium on its head. There are no rules, and there shouldn't be. Brittany Josie's raw words embody feminine strength with a willingness to be vulnerable at all times while throwing in a classic haiku here and there.The seasons of her life are the inspiration behind Weatherveins and she writes like a force of nature. They are as they sound, with Fall being her raw anger, Winter being her cold sadness, Spring speaks of her growth, and Summer is her searing revival.She writes of subtle sexism hiding in plain sight, the grief of lost relationships, and the pain that setting relationship boundaries can bring. She speaks concisely of her own journey and refuses to apologize for being honest.Writer's Digest calls Weatherveins "powerful" and went on to say,"These poems are clear and personal. They are filled with emotion, and readers will be able to recognize themselves in those emotions. The directness of the narrative is refreshing. The themes of frustration, growth, and personal change is well told and explored.
