The author, 8year old Sapphire who was born in Jamaica but moved to Philadelphia as an infant uses the book to make the connections between herself currently as a child and her mother's childhood.Outdoor games, hanging with cousins and friends, being with her grandparents and other happy moments of creating memories that will last a lifetime.Jamaican like me plays on the inner conflict of a young immigrant who is trying to navigate the world she now lives in, that she loves her home in the USA but has a strong yearning to not only know about herself but to experience more through childish play.
